About the Training:
In this training, Dr. Stephen Dewey will unveil groundbreaking research on how brain studies are addressing the war on drugs. Through detailed PET scan studies, Dr. Dewey will explain what makes substances addictive, how environmental cues contribute to relapse, and explore the addictive potential of various substances. The training will focus on the addictive nature of vaping, marijuana, and gaming, and examine their negative consequences, particularly during adolescence.
About Our Speaker:
Dr. Stephen Dewey, Ph.D. is a Research Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at NYU School of Medicine and Director of Research Education at Seafield Center.
Dr. Dewey received his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship in the Neurology Department at Stony Brook University. During his 24-year tenure at Brookhaven National Laboratory, Dr. Dewey conducted research on the effects of addictive drugs on the human brain. These studies led to the development of an effective treatment for addiction.
In 2009, Dr. Dewey moved his research efforts to the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research. Dr. Dewey started an outreach program in 1994 bringing his research findings to school districts throughout Long Island and the tri-state area. His informative message has reached hundreds of thousands of school-age children, parents, teachers, administrators, and counselors.
