Grief Doesn’t Only Follow Funerals
In clinical work, we often meet people who are grieving long before they have the language to call it grief. Sometimes there has been a death. Sometimes there has not. Sometimes the loss is clear, public, and recognized by others. Other times, it is quiet, complicated, ongoing, or difficult to explain. It may show up in the background of a person’s life as exhaustion, irritability, fear, control, avoidance, anger, sadness, or the feeling that life has changed in a way they cannot fully name.
